We begin our journey with a scenic drive on the Kathmandu - Lhasa highway to the ancient trading town to Dolkha. Our walking tour through a secluded and one of the most beautiful parts of Nepal starts here. We trek through the Rolwaling valley, celebrated as one of the seven hidden valleys in the Himalayan, past beautiful and Sherpa and Tamang villages. Rolwing is the East - West valley below Gauri Shankar (7145m) just South of Tibetan border. Beding and Na is the last Sherpa village of this valley, Where more than 20 good Sherpa Climbers, have conquered Mt. Everest and numerous other 8000m peaks. We cross over the Tashi Lapcha pass (5755m) and visit Thame, Tenzin Norgay's hometown, and enter the Khumbu Valley, the land of the Sherpas which lies to the foot of Everest. Great views of Mt. Gauri Shankar, Mt. Dorje Lakpa and Mt. Tashi Lapcha all along the trail. This trek also offers a great opportunity for short climbs of peaks like Ramdong Go (5930m) and Pharchamo (6187m). This trek being strenous, technical climbing experience and good mountaineering gears essential.

ITINERARY 23 Days
Day 01: Arrival Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu City Hotel
Day 03: Bus to Chautar, Trek begins, first camp
Day 20: Trek end at Lukla, Camp or Hotel
Day 21: Fly back to Kathmandu, transfer to Hotel
Day 22: Leisure day in Kathmandu
Day 23: Transfer to airport for Final Departure

ITINERARY 23 Days


Day 01: Travel by bus or taxi from Kathmandu to Barabise (800m, bazaar) on the Kathmandu-Kodari road. In the afternoon first steeply, than traverse via Simle to the Sun Kosi. Camp near the river at 1200 m (3 h).

Day 02: From the Sun Kosi to Dolangsa (2400 m. 5 h), the first Sherpa village with a beautiful Gompa. Continue the through Rhododendron forest tot he Tin Sang La) (3319 m). Camp below the) (on a forest clearing (2900 m) or some 100 m beyond it at the water place.

Day 03: Eastwards through beautiful Rhododendron forest to Ruphtang (2200 m, 3 h, lunch). Continue through the scattered houses of Blgu - the excursion up to the nunnery (2500 m) is very much worth while! - to the bridge crossing the Amatal Khola. Camp near the river (1700 m).

Day 04: Walk to the eastern side of the Sangawa Khola and along terraced fields to Chilanka (1800 m. 2 h). Then traverse high above the river to Laduk, situated some 100 m above the confluence of the Langawa Khola and the Bhote Kosi (1800 m, 3 h).

Day 05: To the Bhote Kosi (1150m, lunch), passing the Tamang villages Yarsa and Thari. steeply to Tashinam (200 m, 6-7 h from Laduk), situated on a terrace high above the Bhote Kosi.

Day 06: Early start. steeply to the Sambur Danda ridge. Luunch on a forest meadow at 3200 m (4 h). In the afternoon to the Daldung La) (above the timbering (just about 4000 m). This is the crossing to the Rolwaling valley. From here you have a beautiful view of Gaurishankar (7146m). Camp either near the last water place below the) (or on the rolwaling side on the first summer pasture).

Day 07: Traversing eastwards. You pass several summer pastures high above the Rolwaling valley. Then along the Dzingri Dranka to the Rolwaling valley (3200m). to Beding (3700m, 7 h from Daldung La). the main village of Rolwaling. It is inhabited by Sherpas and has a nice Gompa.

Day 08: Visit the village and the Gompa. Change the porters here: you need Sherpa porters equipped for the Trashi Laptsa crossing! In the afternoon walk to the summer settlement of Na (4200 m, 2-3 h from beding). From Na you may climb several (S of Na). Among others are Ramdang, Yalungtse and Yalung Ri (P. 5930 m, P. 5766 m, P. 5630 m on the Schneider map). From here you may cross the Yalung La) (to the southern Ramdang valley and over the next) ( Honobu La (4450 m). to the Chordung ridge from which you reach Jiri airstrip (5-6 days; onnection with sheet 3). This is a recommended return if you do not wish to cross the Trashi Laptsa.

Day 09: Early start from Na! Walk eastwards to the Tsho Rolpa lake and on the moraine to the Drolambao glacier which leads to the) (The path marked on the Schneider map leading along the rock (N of the glacier bend) is dangerous because of rockfall. It is possible (1974) to climb the 250 m high cliff, situated about 1 km SE of the dangerous place beyond the ice-fall. the lower part of the cliff is a relatively easy climb, the upper is a short ice wall. camp at 5400 m on the eastern side moraine (9-10 m from Na).

Day 10: Crossing the Trashi Laptsa) (eastwards on the side glacier (many creavasses) to the) (5755 m, 2 h). Fantastic view of the high mountains of Khumbu and rolwaling. In favourable conditions you may climb Pacharmo (6373 m, 3-4 h fr the) (This is only for first class climbers! (never ridge ice flank). from the) (on the eastern side (keep to the le along a glacier slope and through a steep funnel between rock wall of Tengi Ragi Tau (just 7000 m; on the left) and ice-fall (on the right). Caution. rock- and icefall! Contir directly to the moraines and along them to the Thengpo sumr pastures (4300 m, 5-6 h from the) ().

Day 11: To Thame (3800 m, 1 1/2 h). a nice Sherpa villa situated in a former moraine lake. Thame Gompa, one of most beautiful monasteries of the Everest region, is 20 minu above the village. Continue via Thomde, Dramo and Gonglha to Namcha Baz the main trading place of Khumbu (3-4 h).

Day 12: to Lukla (cf. sheet 4/5).
